Parkville Chamber Honors Best of 2009 Businesses

The Parkville Chamber of Commerce held their annual Denim and Diamonds Gala at Argosy Casino on Friday evening January 15 to raise funds to support the Chamber's operations and to recognize those businesses and individuals most appreciated in the local business community. Paul Gross announced each of the awards, and the awards were presented by the evening's master of ceremonies, Steve Wood.
Top honors voted by the Chamber members for "Most Attractive Business" went to Park University, with runner up recognition to Edward Jones, Nick & Jake's and Wines By Jennifer.
The "Best Community Partner" award was presented to Kerby Varner as an individual for his service to the Parkville community. The runners up in this category were Hillcrest Ministries, Parkville Rotary Club and Platte Valley Bank..
The "Best New Chamber Member" was Roxanne's Cafe. Honorable mention went to Agave Restaurant and Edward Jones.
The "Best Overall Business" honors went to Nick and Jake's with honorable mention to A&M Printing, Country Financial and H.M.S. Beagle.
Nominees for the "GEM Award", which recognizes outstanding service to the Parkville Chamber of Commerce in 2009, were Jim McCall, Bill Quitmeier and Platte Valley Bank. The winner for 2009 was Platte Valley Bank.
The "Debra Hopkins Distinguished Service Award" recognizes a person in the community who, over an extended period of time, most significantly contributed to the development of Parkville thru long term leadership and outstanding contributions. Nominees were Kevin Heaton, Carol Kuhns and Maxine McKeon, and Maxine McKeon was the winner.
The final award for the evening was for "Best Dressed", going to the person who best represented the Denim and Diamonds theme. Betty Knight, Platte County Presiding Commissioner, was called upon to judge the audience's applause. Bob Stone was declared the winner and won a gift certificate to the Hillcrest Thrift Shop.
Before the evening's entertainment was turned over to Ashley Cooper, Bill Quitmeier, President of the Chamber, presented outgoing Executive Director, Annette Silvio with a collection of the Chamber's appreciation for her 5 years of service to the Chamber.
