PARKVILLE ROTARY CLUB DONATES $61,400
The Parkville Rotary Club hosted Ocean Springs Mississippi Mayor Connie Moran for lunch on June 15 to learn about how that sister City to Parkville Missouri undertook to recover from Hurricane Katrina. Mayor Moran thanked the members of Parkville Rotary for their generosity in contributing $12,680 to the Ocean Springs Mississippi Rotary Club to help relieve the trauma of Hurricane Katrina.
Outgoing President of the Parkville Rotary Club Sandi Schmude congratulated the Parkville Rotary members for their charitable efforts during her one-year term as President in 2005-2006. Schmude outlined other major charitable efforts undertaken this year by the Parkville Rotary Club that included $26, 208 for the Parkville Rotary Clock project, $7,000 in local scholarships, and $22,500 in various other charitable donations that totaled over $61,400.
The Parkville Rotary Club has 66 active members who are business and civic leaders in the local area. Rotary’s primary focus is to build good will and world peace through “Service Above Self”. Sandi Schmude reflected on the opportunities she has seen for the Parkville Rotary Club to make a difference in the community and the world and how she challenged the Club to meet those needs. The complete list of donations reflects the diversity of local and International projects that the Club has successfully undertaken this year.
Parkville Rotary Club President-Elect Michael Hobbs, President/Owner of WattMaster Controls, Inc., an HVAC controls company located in Parkville, is in Copenhagen Denmark at an Rotary International Convention preparing his plan for the 2006-2007 Presidency. That plan includes a major drinking water well project whereby the Parkville Rotary Club will partner with a third world country Rotary Club to dig wells for communities that do not have safe drinking water. By providing this basic human need there is a proven exponential leap in quality of life for a village. Rotary International is promoting this type of partnership whereby local Clubs join hands across international boundaries to promote world peace through mutual understanding and a “Service Above Self” commitment.
